This is Part I of a four-part series on Songpan. We are higlighting various cultural and historical features of this great region before concluding with the final part, which will focus on the natural and outdoor aspects of the county. Part I of "This is Songpan" is about Chinese history and Han culture.
Many Han families own various shops in Songpan, to engage tourist and local passersby.
You will find some Han living in the area who are decedents of those who fought in the Red Army during the civil war.
Songpan's original city and walls were extended in 1379, which provided stronger protection of the western border of the Han kingdom. In 1426 the Western Wall was rebuilt further out, atop the West Hill.
